|Not only does FirstOntario Credit Union have a great rate, their app is great. When you call them, a real person answers the phone. Their chequing accounts rarely charge any fees, and no minimum balance required!
The only fee I ever pay is $1.50 for the occasional EMT.
Yes, you have to purchase $25 in shares, but every year they pay YOU a $5 dividend. And if you're a child, you only have to purchase $5 in shares, so in your first year, your dividend payout is 100%. If you ever close your account, you get all that share+dividend money back.
Interest is also paid daily, so I usually move all my funds from my chequing account, and then make 1 free withdrawal from the savings account to my chequing account for all my needs.
I recommend them to everyone. I keep my account with them even though I now live in an area that does not have any FirstOntario branches because I just do cashback or write cheques when I need them.
