According to RBC for a long time now this interest rate has been 0.05% and not the 1.05% reported above (see https://www.rbcroyalbank.com/accounts/e-savings.html) and RBC cust service has dropped a lot in the last few years. Customer Service:   Cost/Rates/Value:   Convenience:   Features:

This is a half decent account to keep your cash in if you want to be able to quickly and easily transfer it to another RBC account. I think it pays more than any other savings account at Royal Bank. However, you could do better at just about any other virtual bank. ING Direct, Canadian Tire Bank, Ally, etc... usually all offer rates that are higher than this. I guess one advantage to this account is that it is backed by RBC. For some people, the feeling of safety associated with dealing with the largest financial institution in Canada is worth getting a lower interest rate for.
